A while back I recently stumbled into what appears to be, from pics I have found on the net, an 1871 Swiss Vetterli Calvary Carbine Variation 2.
It has a crack nest to the action on the buttstock that needs to be repaired (glued down) but other than that it appears to be complete and all matching with no import mark. I have not cleaned the barrel but it looks good with strong rifling with possibly a small pit have way down (but this may be dirt I will find out tonite).
I have a sporterized Vetterli I shoot on occassion that was sporterized and converted to center fire prior to my getting it and this one just caught my eye since I already had one. It has been in the safe for some time and I had actually, on occassion, thought about converting it but every time I do I slam my hand in the drawer and the thought goes away. with the exception of the crack the gun is probably 90% or better and does not appear to have been molested over the years that I can tell.
Can someone give me a rough Idea of what these things are worth and if there is any interest in them?
Thanks,
Donkt
