Heck, yes! I wouldn't shoot there, otherwise!

Hello Bob,
I was hoping you'd take a look at this and give me your opinion. It's a scout postal I'm working on: eteamz.active.com/scheduler/ Thanks ******** "To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them." ---Richard Henry Lee M1 Garand M48 Yugo Mauser 1898 Krag Swiss K31 Savage 12FV .223 Pat Craig McHenry County Illinos USMC 1981-1991 ![]() "C" Company 3rd Reconnaissance Bn |

The club I belong to allows any position as long as
you are parallel to the firing line The benches are made out of cinder blocks with 2" thick tops. Each beach is approx 10 feet from each other. |

The range I shoot at has the concrete benches, but in addition you have to shoot through a slot in a wall made of heavy wood filled with pea gravel. This was all mandated by the local politico, county I believe.
The dept of corrections has recently leased the 200 yd range, and they do not shoot from the benches, having graveled the area on the target side of the wall. OeldeWolf who may yet be kicked out of the Republik of Kalifornia for owning too many firearms

Quote: The Ouachita Parish public(sheriffs dept operated) range is that way. Up until this year it was locate just east of Monroe, La at the airport. They put up a wall with holes to shoot through, saying it was FAA mandated to keep from shooting aircraft in approach/departure pattern. Never mind that this was a pre WWII air corp training field, and the range was designed and built by the army for small arms. There has never been an aircraft hit or shot at to my knowledge, but shoot hp rifles from behind wall from benches only. Rimfire and any handguns are any position with no barrier wall. Makes real sense, some handguns are more powerfull and less controlable than some centerfire rifles. Fast forward, they close that range to the public after 60 years, and build a nice new one just on the west side of West Monroe, Same set up same rules only no low flying aircraft,, Does't make sense. Prone, sitting and off-hand at the 200 yd range only. Benchrest on the 100 yd rifle range.

I find some range rules to be very interesting.

All positions allowed @ Arlington/Fairfax Chapter of the IWLA (Chantilly, VA) | ||

I generally shoot at the Arlington/Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America (Chantilly, VA).
It's a 16 position 25 / 50 / 75 / 100yd range. Very sturdy/heavy benches are provided for all lanes, but they also allow offhand, sitting, prone, whatever. Last fall, I even saw couple was there with some honkin' big rifles and shooting sticks with loads of other equipment - they looked to be checking out their gear for a Safari. The only restriction is no full auto. The range officers are all volunteers and are top notch. If they aren't also shooting they are - to a man - happy to give tips and help newbies. Incidentally, (aside from the relatively short rifle range (100yd)) this is a great club. In addition to the 100yd outdoor range, there is 10m indoor air gun, 4 outdoor (obviously) skeet/trap positions, indoor & outdoor target archery, outdoor walk-through bow hunting range, and a catch and release pond. |

Next time you're there look for an old man with a grey beard and a beat-up Navy Rifle Team hat, and say hello.

I shoot at the Cheshire Fish and Game range in Sullivan N.H. As long as your in back of the firing line there is room between benches to sit, stand or lay
(prone). Even more room at the 200 yrd. range. Other than my 1911 and k31s' the guys I shoot with are into single shot rifles, e.g. rolling blocks,
trapdoors, highwalls and some old sharps side hammers and borchardts, so we do a lot of offhand . Sure irks some of them boys with their scoped highpowered
rifles to see us ringing that gong at 200 offhand with open sights.
